Relations between observed thermodynamic properties of substances are derived from certain basic postulates without taking account of the atomic structure of matter. Topics include conditions of equilibrium, processes, thermodynamic engines, thermodynamic potentials, Maxwell relations, phase transitions. Prerequisite(s): PHYS 2413 or PHYS 2423, MATH 2723 or MATH 2023, and MATH 2753 or MATH 2013.
