Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Theory and Application

3 credits · Graduate

This course provides an overview of NMR spectroscopy theory and its applications to a wide range of problems in chemistry, materials science, engineering, and the life sciences. Topics include the theoretical foundations of NMR, modern NMR experiments in solution and the solid state, and their applications to probe geometric and electronic structure, reaction mechanisms, and dynamics across a wide range of systems. Computer exercises are a major component of this course. The course will comprise lectures, practical exercises, and in-class presentations. Students will gain training in NMR data processing, analysis, simulations, and quantum-mechanical calculations of NMR parameters.
