COLWRIT 21A
Language, Culture, Oral Fluency, and The Spoken Word
Spoken Word is the continuation of the ancient human tradition of storytelling and song, long before the appearance of the written word, the printing press or text messages. The class is designed to develop students’ communicative competences by exploring the Spoken Word, or the reciting of contemporary literature, song and poetry. Students will participate in classroom activities which include speaking and the oral interpretation, or reading aloud, of prose and poetry, along with group work and response journal assignments. The class aims to improve both your fluency and accuracy in English, to focus on the rhythm, sound, and pulse of language, as well as to improve listening comprehension and critical vocabulary.
