Foundations for Teaching Reading in Grades K-8
Teaching reading and writing to children is an honor, privilege, and great responsibility. The activities of this course focus on preparing you for this endeavor by exploring the fundamentals of literary theory, content, pedagogy, and assessment, through the lenses of evidence-based research. Together, we’ll explore what the act of teaching engaged reading and writing fostering positive literacy identities means, and why and how to do this effectively so that all students can realize their right to read. This course meets the literacy preliminary credential requirements outlined by the California Teaching Commission.
