University Athletic Finance

3 credits · Graduate

University athletics is big business and is undergoing vast transformations. This class will focus on financial aspects of college sports and discuss how spending patterns reflect values, equity, and access. Topics covered include athletics scholarships, institutional subsidies for university athletics, Title IX, Name Image Likeness, and the development of e-sports programs. Each week will include a discussion of recent trends, academic scholarship, and innovations in university athletic finance. Students will have the opportunity to engage with the course material through in-class discussions, case studies, and guest speakers. This course may be of particular interest to students in the CSSE masters program, but all students are welcome.
