The Art of Making Meaning: Educational Perspectives on Literacy and Learning in a Global World

The course focuses on making meaning from symbol systems. Since the turn of the century, the world has transformed at a rapid clip, and our current moment asks us to be critical, reflective, and ethical in our communications across the digital landscape, especially in our use of new media tools, including Generative AI. The context is particularly prescient for education, and the children and youth learning and engaging more often than not in these digital spaces—ones that shape their experiences with literacy learning, negotiation, and sense-making.
