FOLKLOR 297
Directed Field Study
This course provides supervised field experience for graduate students applying folkloristic methods and theories in professional settings. Students will undertake an internship with a designated partner organization—such as a museum, archive, arts council, or community non-profit—to gain practical training in public folklore, cultural heritage management, and/or archival methods. The academic component of the course requires students to document their labor, analyze the organizational structure of their host institution, and reflect on the application of folklore scholarship to the public sector. The internship duties and the academic requirements must remain distinct, though they inform one another.
