Conducting Community Engaged Research

3 credits · Undergraduate

This course teaches students how to do Community Engaged Research-CER. For our purposes, CER is broadly understood as research that is undertaken in support of the common good, in consultation with local community organizations, through participation in social movements, and beyond. Working with the instructor, students will identify a substantive focus early in the semester (past examples include environmental justice; housing; alternative economics; and beyond, but students are encouraged to pursue their own interests). Throughout the course, students will practice using the methods we study - interviewing, participant observation, archival research, corporate research, and many more) in order to learn more about their substantive focus.
