GEOG 200B
Contemporary Theory and Inquiry in Geography
This course is the second in a required three-course sequence for doctoral students in Geography. The course has three core aims. First, to train students to map a body of thought through a lineage of literature. We will do so by engaging contemporary geographic theory in a key subfield of the instructor’s choice. Second, to deepen understanding of key concepts within the discipline and relate them to our research interests through collaborative discussion and curiosity. Finally, the course will equip students to articulate their research plans through a key genre of academic writing: the proposal, devoting class time and 1:1 meetings to workshopping drafts.
