Adaptation to Sea Level Rise in Cities

3 credits · Graduate

This seminar explores the impacts and adaptation approaches to sea level rise in cities, with an emphasis on physical infrastructure, nature-based approaches, and strategies for phasing adaptation in place. Graduate students from any major are welcome to join this multidisciplinary course. We discuss how physiographic context, physical planning, infrastructure design, environmental justice, history and biodiversity can all influence the choice of adaptation strategies. The instructor will share strategy-changing research on sea level rise and its impacts, provide students with access to decision-makers to hear how they reason about change, and review efforts to adapt that are planned or implemented around the world.
