Introduction to Robotics, Part II
This is the second course introduction to robotics and embodied intelligent machines. It covers advanced topics in control of robotic manipulation, multi-fingered hands, active vision, localization and navigation of unmanned air and ground vehicles, legged robots and humanoids. There is a laboratory with 4-5 experiments and a final project requirement.
Topics
- The primary objective of this course is to help students develop the academic maturity necessary to understand and conduct research in the field of robotics, active vision, and intelligent machines. Along with surveying a breadth of topics relevant to modern robotics, this course also gives students the ability to implement the concepts taught in lecture through exploration lab-based projects. Students will also get practice reading and interpreting research papers through weekly paper presentations. The course culminates in a final project that allows students to conduct independent, original research on a topic of their choosing. Students who complete the course should: Be proficient at reading, comprehending, and critiquing research papers in robotics. Get experience with independent research in robotics, vision and intelligent machines. Develop the skills necessary to reason about nonlinear control systems, robotic manipulators, steer non-holonomic autonomous systems, path-planning, active vision, robotic grasping, and other advances in robotics.
