Afrofuturism in Music

In this course introduces Afrofuturistic music and considers the unique contributions musicians have made to Afrofuturist thought. We will investigate the deeper historical connections of this artistic style in the works of artists such as Sun Ra, Parliament/Funkadelic, and Janelle Monae. We will explore the ways that literary and musical Afrofuturism continuously inform each other, through watching movies, listening to and analyzing music, and reading Afrofuturist stories and critiques.
