PSYCH 238

Psychotherapy Theory and Practice

3 credits · Graduate

This course is primarily intended for graduate students in clinical psychology who want to deepen and expand their knowledge of psychotherapy theory. This class will cover all the major theories and approaches from psychoanalysis and psychodynamic theory to Rogerian (humanistic) therapy, and (both separately and conjointly) cognitive, behavioral, and cognitive-behavioral theories. Attention will also be given to important sub-classes of these theories, including classical and operant conditioning, and social-cognitive theory. Finally, we will spend some time with modern "third wave" treatments, emphasizing how these approaches borrow from and build on established treatment models
