Archaeological Ethnography: A Multi-Temporal Contact Zone

In this course, we will critically examine the emerging, hybrid field of archaeological ethnography, a shared space of interaction between social anthropologists and archaeologists, and between scholars and the various local communities around archaeological sites. What does it mean for archaeologists to engage with ethnography? How can materiality and temporality provide the focus for creating the transcultural, shared space of archaeological ethnography? How can this emerging field transform the disciplines of archaeology and anthropology?
