Drilling and completion methods for horizontal wells; mathematical analysis of steady state flow to horizontal wells and well combinations; pseudo steady state and constant well bore pressure models; theoretical comparisons of predicted performance and coning behaviour of horizontal and vertical well patterns; performance in fractured reservoirs; potential for horizontal wells in heavy oil and bitumen production; basic conceptual ideas of steam-assisted gravity drainage. Prerequisite(s): Petroleum Engineering 429 or Petroleum Engineering 523 or consent of the Department.
