MATH 411
Linear Methods III
The theory of linear operators on finite-dimensional vector spaces, with emphasis on decompositions, canonical forms, spectral theory, and invariant subspaces. This course highlights operators on inner product spaces, including orthogonal projections, isometries, unitaries, and normal operators. Vector space constructions such as dual spaces, direct sums, quotients, and tensor products will also be developed.. Prerequisite(s): Mathematics 311; and Mathematics 267 or 277; and Mathematics 271. Antirequisite(s): Credit for Mathematics 411 and 313 will not be allowed. Also known as: (formerly Mathematics 361)
