Research Methods and Policy for Sustainability

3 credits · Undergraduate Programs

Conceptualizing human-environment-non-human realities and knowledge into research design, addressing qualitative and quantitative evaluation of effective outcomes in transdisciplinary models. Develop and apply knowledge and tools to support braiding multiple knowledge systems and examining the 'rules' of research, with the intent to challenge biases in scientific knowledge through the lens of real-world complexity (i.e., wicked problems). The course includes the application of a transdisciplinary design process to an open-ended 'wicked problem' in sustainability by applying a systems thinking methodology. Prerequisite(s): 3 units from Sustainable Systems Engineering 401 or 403. Antirequisite(s): Credit for Sustainable Systems Engineering 405 and Sustainability Studies 403 will not be allowed.
