Explores the concept of life cycle assessment as it applies to engineering systems. Introduction to the stages of life cycle assessment (goal and scope, inventory analysis, impact assessment) and life cycle assessment frameworks (e.g., process-based, input-output, hybrid). Several tools for sustainability assessment are evaluated from a systems perspective with a focus on quantifying environmental and economic impacts of engineering systems. Antirequisite(s): Credit for Sustainable Systems Engineering 605 and Civil Engineering 619.11 (Life Cycle Assessment) will not be allowed.
