Ethical Design and Values-based Science and Engineering

3 credits · Graduate Programs

This course equips graduate students with the knowledge and tools to integrate value-based and ethical reasoning, equity, diversity, inclusion, accessibility (EDIA), and sustainability principles into scientific research and engineering design, development and implementation. Students will examine how technical decisions shape social, environmental, and policy outcomes. Through seminars, case studies, interested parties' engagement, design challenges, and a final project, students will apply ethical frameworks to real-world sustainability problems and develop value-based, inclusive, and socially responsible and responsive solutions. Prerequisite(s): Admission to a thesis-based program.
