Bi 188
Human Genomics
Human genome structure, function, and genetic variation. We focus on how the genome encodes differential gene expression to specify cell type, cell state, and higher level tissue functions. The course draws on functional assays and inferences of gene regulatory network (GRN) structure; on biochemical measures and genome-wide maps of transcription and the resulting transcriptome (including both coding and regulatory non-coding RNAs); on mapping and modelling the epigenome/regulatory genome; and on genetic variation from SNPs to CNVs. Given in alternate years; offered 2026-27.
Prerequisites & course information
Prerequisites: Graduate standing with prior molecular biology and genetics; or Bi 122 or instructor permission.
