Physical Principles of Remote Sensing
This course introduces students to the fundamental electromagnetic (EM) principles of remote sensing. We will cover the properties of EM radiation and its interactions with matter, emphasizing applications relevant to the study of Earth and other planetary bodies. Topics include the EM properties of natural materials, wave reflection and transmission at interfaces, scattering from rough surfaces and vegetation, atmospheric scattering, and blackbody radiation. Homework assignments focus on current applications in Earth and planetary sciences.
