Special Topics in Geobiology: From Concept to Coast: Building Autonomous Ocean Missions
This project-based course for undergraduate and graduate students integrates science and engineering to investigate a scientific question using in situ autonomous technologies. Students will work in interdisciplinary teams to design a mission-driven experiment, build and program a field-deployable autonomous system, and deploy their experiment in the coastal waters near Caltech’s Kerckhoff Marine Laboratory. The course provides hands-on experience with experimental design, systems integration, mission scripting, and data acquisition and analysis. Emphasizing a mission-based science framework, the course fosters cross-disciplinary teamwork and prepares students to execute end-to-end campaigns. Offered by announcement only.
