China-Africa Relations

Much has been said about the presence of China in Africa, some factual, some conjectural, and some fantastical. In this course, we will explore various approaches and positions with the aim of allowing students deeper comprehension of the subject matter as well as the stakes for Africa, China, and the US and its Western allies. We will ask whether there are causes for worry, caution, and simply for a good reality check on all sides.
