Research Seminar: Brain Activity and Cognition
To gain knowledge in empirical research and its role within the broader field of cognitive neuroscience, students will attend a weekly seminar, read and critically evaluate primary research articles, and engage in scholarly activities that support the development of research and analytical skills. We will focus on selected readings examining the neural bases of attention, learning, and emotion. An overarching goal of this seminar is to develop students' ability to critically analyze contemporary theories and empirical findings concerning brain function and cognition. Within a single semester, we will examine and critique foundational and contemporary research related to attention, learning, and emotion. Emphasis will be placed on interpreting primary research articles, evaluating methodological approaches, synthesizing findings across studies, and considering future directions for inquiry. Through seminar discussions, written assignments, and independent scholarly work, students will develop the skills necessary to engage with and contribute to research in cognitive neuroscience. Attendance and active participation in seminar discussions are expected.
