Plant Sciences Data Management Tools and Practices
Plant Sciences Data Management Tools and Practices is an introduction to the rapidly changing world of data management and the tools and best practices for managing data with a focus on conducting research in the plant sciences. Students will gain an understanding of the types of data in collected in all aspects or plant science research and how to use and curate data using appropriate resources and tools as required by all major funding agencies and research publishing entities. Additional emphasis will be placed on facilitating an active learning environment where students can practice using the data management tools and resources with data sets from relevant plant science fields.
Topics
- Distinguish between different types of data and different kinds of data management tools.
- Select basic data management solutions appropriate for plant problems given the data type.
- Analyze and evaluate advanced theoretical concepts in biometry and bioinformatics as applied to plant science data from wet lab, dry lab, and field research across agricultural, biomedical, and industrial contexts.
