ANTH 2264
Veterans: Hero, Victim, Threat
This course exams military veterans, primarily in the United States. Often portrayed as either a hero, a victim, or a threat to society, the veteran holds a simultaneously valorized but ambiguous position in political rhetoric and everyday life. Drawing from historical and contemporary perspectives, this course seeks to problematize the identities, roles, and lived experiences of veterans, their return to civilian life after military service, how they conceptualize their status as veterans, and how we think about veterans and their contributions to life and culture in the United States.
