Teaching Residency I

3 Credits · Level: Graduate, Undergraduate

Contextualized in your daily teaching practice, Teaching Practicum I and II constitute a two course sequence that will integrate coursework on instructional design utilizing the framework of Understanding by Design and universal design for learning along with on-site support, supervision and classroom observations. Through face-to-face class sessions and online modules, you will develop a repertoire of instructional design strategies to engage English learners and ensure student achievement. On-site classroom observations will help you implement instructional strategies learned in the course and provide formative and summative evaluative feedback. In addition, you will develop professional dispositions that situate inquiry and reflection as the nucleus of your practice. You will use formative and summative data on student engagement and learning to inform instructional decisions, integrate feedback on your practice from the professor and your peers, share feedback with other educators via the hybrid face-to-face and online nature of the course. You also will take ownership of your professional development by establishing a stance of a reflective practitioner and crafting a digital portfolio that documents your practice throughout the school year.
