Global Leaders Charact/Virtues
This course is a course in applied ethics. It will introduce fundamental concepts in moral reasoning and ethical decision-making. It will then apply those concepts to case studies of individuals, many of them public officials, from various countries and at various stages in their lives and careers, who faced an ethical challenge and rose to the occasion by putting key elements of character and virtue into action. It thus bridges the worlds of theory and practice. What is character? What is virtue? And how are they practiced --- or not --- in the real world? Why and how did some individuals rise to the occasion, and others did not? These are among the questions we will explore in this course.
