US Nat'l Sec: Great Powr Cmpet
U.S. National Security in an Era of Great Power Competition--The central question of this course is: "What is 'great power competition' and what does it mean for U.S. national security policy today?" In order to answer this question, the course will examine three sets of issues. First, the course explores the meaning of “great power competition.” As part of this examination students will consider various forms of competition and what they imply for the strategic choices of key actors. Second, this course will examine recent, contemporary, and likely future developments in the international system in order to assess where the world is, indeed, entering a new period of “great power competition.” Finally, the course will consider the implication of the ‘great power competition’ frame for U.S. national security policy. By the end of the course, students will have the analytical tools to assess the nature of great power competition and develop models and frameworks to inform recommendations about U.S. foreign policy decisions.
