Sign Language Science: History and Structure of Signed Languages around the World This class explores how sign languages are structured, how they have evolved globally, and how they are acquired by deaf children and used for communication and culture by deaf communities. We will investigate sign languages as natural languages that develop independently of spoken languages, analyzing both their historical emergence and their contemporary usage.
