Intro Partial Diff Equations

3 Credits · Level: Graduate, Undergraduate

Partial differential equations are essential tools in applied mathematics. This course synthesizes and builds upon techniques and concepts from multivariable calculus, linear algebra and ordinary differential equations to solve and analyze key linear and nonlinear partial differential equations. Topics include initial and boundary value problems, maximum principles, Fourier series, Green’s functions and conservation laws. Applications to physics, biology and other fields depending partly upon student interest will be central to the course. Prerequisites: Math 137 (Multivariable Calculus) and Math 150 (Linear Algebra). Math 201 (Ordinary Differential Equations) is helpful but not required.
