Business Ethics

3 Credits · Level: Undergraduate

This course explores the ethical dimensions of business in conversation with insights from economics, psychology, and law. Course readings introduce students to a range of ethical challenges that routinely arise across the business landscape, prompting reflection both on what is the "right" thing to do in those circumstances as well as how such problems might be prevented from developing in the first place. We will examine, in particular, problems arising from conflicts of interest, regulatory challenges, and externalities. The course also considers moral virtues and principles that underlie good business practice and the moral, legal, and political foundations of prosperous market societies. Finally, it explores the moral limits of markets and whether there are some things that money should not buy.
