Environ Policy Politics US

3 Credits · Level: Graduate

The purpose of this course is to understand the political dynamics that shape the debate, enactment, and implementation of environmental policy in the United States. We will explore theories and conceptual frameworks from political science, public policy, economics, and sociology, and we will apply theories from these fields to current and historical environmental policy cases. The course will help students develop a nuanced understanding of the ideas and institutions that structure the environmental policy process and apply this understanding to ongoing environmental policy debates. The course does not require prior knowledge of environmental policy, but it does assume basic familiarity with the U.S. public policy process. PPOL 510 (or equivalent) is sufficient background.
