Moral Development
This course examines how humans develop a sense and understanding of morality (a sense of what is right and what is wrong). We will talk about major theories of moral psychology and criticisms of these theories. We will cover how moral thinking develops (e.g., moral reasoning), how moral emotions develop (e.g., empathy and compassion) and how these relate to moral action and prosocial behavior. This class will provide opportunities for students to integrate the course material with their own observations of human morality, and to some extent their personal experiences.
