Cultural Beings

3 Credits · Level: Graduate, Undergraduate

Cultural psychology focuses on the ways in which culture and psychological functions (e.g., emotions, cognition, relationships, motivation) make each other up. We will begin with a review of several theoretical papers. We will continue with a discussion of contemporary empirical research on topics such as cultural evolution, cultural shaping of social support, emotions and cognition, culture and social class and culture and evolution. Students will learn about empirical methods in cultural psychology and will complete hands-on group empirical projects. Our class time will include discussion, watching and discussing videos, and research supervision.
