Gender SexualityResist LatAm
Gender, Sexuality, and Resistance in Latin America This course considers Latin American literature, film, art, performance, and protest that address questions of gender and sexuality. Over the course of the semester, we will study how creators from across the hemisphere engage literature and the arts as a means of deconstructing, contesting, and reframing dominant narratives and discourses surrounding gender and sexuality. We will also pay close attention to how these same creators engage with and respond to their respective socio-political contexts, particularly as it relates to legislative matters that uniquely impact women and members of the LGBTQIA+ community. Possible topics of discussion include but are not limited to: Latin American feminisms and feminist traditions, critical masculinities, intersectionality and intersectional feminisms, gender-based violence, forced sterilization and obstetric violence, femicide, LGBTQIA+ rights movements, and gender-based discrimination and inequities.
