Love,Madness Danger:Span Lit

3 Credits · Level: Undergraduate

Through film and works of different literary genres, this course will explore critical frontiers of the mind, the emotions, and culture. For instance, the boundaries between madness and sanity, and between and authenticity and performance will be studied through selected excerpts from Miguel de Cervantes’ Don Quijote and Werner Herzog’s 2005 film Grizzly Man. Historical, cultural, and anthropological themes will be explored when we analyze the culture of the borderlands between the Christian and the Muslim worlds in medieval Spain. Other boundaries such as those between love/hate, jealousy/envy, reality/dreams, and male/female will also be studied.
