Garcia Marquez and Bolano

This course will focus on two vast novels that are landmarks of modern Latin American literature, One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez and 2666 by Roberto Bolaño. Short stories and other brief texts by and about the authors will also be considered. Students should arrive ready and willing to do a great deal of reading in Spanish. Active and regular participation in classroom discussions will also be expected. Writing assignments will include three papers of varying lengths. The course will be taught in Spanish.
