(JOUR 333) Reporting the Crises: Identity, Journalism and Power

4 Credits

This seminar helps students understand the role of journalists, media-makers and citizens at the intersection of identity and inequality in times of crisis. It covers issues of race, class and gender with a specific emphasis on anti-Black racism, showing how media can be consciously or unwittingly used to further discrimination and support ongoing structures and patterns of harm. Ultimately students will explore how new media platforms, organizations and workers might undertake more equitable practices for a more equal media future. Attribute/Distribution: CC, SS
