HIST 013
(HMS 013) Pandemics and Public Health in Global History
Introduces the history of public health through regional studies of disease outbreaks around the world. Explores how different beliefs about the body, health, and disease have intersected with local medical traditions and processes of globalization to produce various public health measures over time. Through case studies, considers the efficacy of these measures; how we gauge efficacy in different cultural and environmental contexts; and the effects of social, economic, and political forces on patient experiences and public health outcomes.
