Global Politics of Censorship

4 Credits

Recent decades have seen a steady increase in both governmental and non-governmental censorship in the West. This course examines the causes and consequences of this transnational phenomenon, including the rise of social media, political polarization, critical social justice movements, civil rights law, shifts in social norms, and changes in class structure. It covers many divisive issues in contemporary politics, including hate speech, race relations, blasphemy, misinformation, media bias, and research taboos in academia.
