REL 165
(GS 165, WGSS 165) Global Feminism in a Postsecular World
This course examines global women’s religiosity through transnational feminist and postsecular perspectives. We ask how colonialism, nation-building, Enlightenment ideals, capitalism, migration, racism, and xenophobia have shaped women’s religious lives worldwide. Focusing on religion’s role in modern identities and justice movements, we analyze categories such as class, gender, race, sexuality, and nation. The course challenges fixed notions of “womanhood,” exploring how intersectional frameworks and spiritual practices generate transformative possibilities for feminist thought, resistance, and social change across global contexts.
