Upper Class: Sociology of Privilege

4 Credits

How is social class inequality perpetuated despite so much organized effort to combat and diminish it? Much social science has focused on how disadvantage is reproduced. But how is advantage reproduced? What can sociology tell us about how privilege is passed along, and structured to contribute to ongoing inequity? And what can be done about it? This course will cover a broad array of concepts, theories, and subjects related to the intergenerational transmission of social class inequality in contemporary US.
