Environmental Ocean Acoustics
Covers the basic elements of ocean acoustic-wave propagation and scattering apropos of the particular physical, biological, geological, and chemical conditions found in ocean margins and basins, including high latitudes. Introduction provides an overview of ocean acoustics, especially remote sensing, navigation, and communication applications; analytical tools; and acoustically significant properties of seawater, including the equation of state. Treats the following topics: acoustic wave equation from the fundamental principles of fluid dynamics; properties of sound waves; acoustical environment of the ocean; plane-wave reflection and transmission at the sea surface and seabed; geometrical acoustics/ray theory; normal-mode theory; parabolic equation techniques; scattering from rough surfaces; bubbles; and numerical methods to solve the wave equation for scattering.
