Quantitative Medical Physiology for Scientists and Engineers
Includes lectures, demonstrations, and laboratory exercises focusing on aspects of human and animal physiology from a medical and mathematically quantitative viewpoint. Lecture topics include: skeletal and tissue mechanics, pulmonary gas exchange and its relationship to viscoelastic models, fluid mechanics models of the vascular system, and the molecular basis and electrical models of neuronal and neuromuscular transmission. Where relevant, applied pharmacology and related biochemistry and biophysics discussed. In laboratory sessions, students complete experiments that build upon the lecture concepts through dissecting anatomic specimens and measuring human physiological outputs.
