3-0-9 units · Graduate

Explores spatial sound as culture, technology and practice. Spacial sound refers to practices of sonic composition, performance, and listening in ways that emphasize the activation of space in immersive ways, generally using multichannel audio with many speakers, in contrast to two-channel stereo or headphone listening. Gives an overview of important approaches to media, performance style, and streaming events. Emphasizes project-based learning as a means to understand more deeply the scholarship and social practices around spatial sound. No technical background is required. Graduate students complete additional assignments.
