Mineral phase diagrams. Minerals of igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks. Mineral paragenesis. Geothermometers and geobarometers. X-ray techniques. Introduction to thin section identification of minerals in igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic rocks. ***Prerequisite: ESC 201, ESC 210 and CHEM 104.*** *Note: It is strongly recommended that students register in CHEM 105 prior to, or concurrently with, this course.* *Note: Students may receive credit for one of ESC 211 or GEOL 211.*
