INTRODUCTION TO GLOBAL CIVIC ENGAGEMENT
The course prepares fellows for a two-week experience abroad, where they will gain an understanding of how local communities take action around a social issue through global community partners. Students will also meet with university students, staff, and faculty, both abroad and at Rice University, and prepare for independently created cohort travel based on their personal, professional, and academic interests. This course aims to encourage fellows to think critically about their impact as short-term visitors in these communities, how to maximize immersion while engaging ethically, and to navigate a first-time travel experience from planning to execution. Acceptance to the Moody Global Fellows program required for registration. Instructor Permission Required.
