ANTH 392
Selected Topics
The topic for 2026-2027 is Ancient Andes. Although the Inka are the best known of the Ancient Andean States, they only represent the final manifestation of a long Indigenous cultural tradition. In this course, we will explore the development of these societies back to their roots several thousand years before the arrival of Pizzaro and the Spanish conquistadors when radical transformations occurred. We will examine the factors that helped shape past Andean cultural sequences from humble nomadic beginnings to complex states. Prerequisite: ANTH 235, 243 or 253. Three credits.
