Castles and Cathedrals

Three credits · Undergraduate

This course explores the architecture of medieval Europe, focussing on how the castles and cathedrals of the Middle Ages were designed and built, and the economies, societies, and cultures that such buildings created around them. In this course we will examine the artisans and craftsmen who helped build castles and cathedrals and explore how the meanings of these buildings changed over time, in peace and in war and through different political regimes. Cross-listed as HIST 315. Three credits. Offered 2026-2027.
